Everything here is within easy reach of The Lodge and The Barn, our two cabins on the Buffalo River in Lobelville, Perry County, Tennessee. Perry County is quiet. That's the point. But there's plenty to do if you're looking — from paddling the Buffalo River to barbecue, farm markets, and a day trip to Nashville.
On the River
Buffalo River Resort
The place to go if you want to get out on the Buffalo River. Just a short drive from the cabins, with kayak, canoe, and tube rentals.
Bone's Canoe & Campground
Another great option for getting out on the Buffalo River, with kayak rentals and river trips.
Mousetail Landing State Park
A beautiful spot for hiking, picnicking, and fishing along the Tennessee River, with wooded trails and scenic river views.
Food + Drink
Bold Wind Coffee Bar
A great local stop for freshly roasted coffee and a bite to eat. The BLT and buffalo chicken melts are especially good, and gluten-free bread is available.
Cane Creek Market
Well worth a stop for the fresh-made deli sandwiches. It's packed with useful and interesting finds, from candy and baking ingredients to kitchen staples and traditional Amish-made products.
Papa Kayjoe's Bar B Que
A scenic half-hour drive, and well worth it for excellent Tennessee barbecue in the charming little town of Centerville.
Kellie Ann's BBQ
Another great option when you're craving Tennessee barbecue. An easy drive, and a nice excuse to explore Linden.
Grinder's Switch Winery
A lovely stop for sampling Tennessee-made wines in a relaxed country setting. Enjoy a tasting and pick up a bottle for the cabin.

A relaxed local bar for a casual night out, with pool tables, cold drinks, and classic bar food.

Russell Creek Amish Farmers Market
A must-visit while you're in the area, for fresh, locally grown produce and a variety of Amish-made goods.
Perry Massage
A full-service wellness spot in downtown Lobelville: Swedish, therapeutic, deep-tissue, and couples massage, hot stone treatments, facials, an infrared sauna, a cold plunge, and even a zero-gravity float spa.
Pinckney's Tomb
One of Perry County's stranger little pieces of history. Around 1885, farmer Pinckney Hufstedler built a roof over his family's stone-walled cemetery, creating what's thought to be one of the largest grave houses in Middle Tennessee. It's on private land but open to visitors, so be respectful and admire it from outside.
Cedar Grove Iron Furnace
A remarkably intact piece of Perry County’s industrial past. Built in the 1830s, it’s thought to be the only double-stack charcoal iron furnace left in Tennessee, and it went quiet in 1862 when Union gunboats shelled the ironworks. Historical markers stand along Buckfork Road.
Humphreys County Museum & Civil War Fort
A small local-history museum in the Butterfield House, a 1920s hilltop mansion in Waverly. Next door, the earthen walls of Fort Hill, a Union fort built in the winter of 1863–64 by the 13th U.S. Colored Troops, are still intact. Call ahead for current hours.
Johnsonville State Historic Park
A state historic park on the Tennessee River, preserving the site of the November 1864 Battle of Johnsonville, when Nathan Bedford Forrest's Confederates destroyed the Union supply depot here. The redoubts of the Union fort still survive, along with a small museum in the visitor center and walking trails.
Day Trips
Loretta Lynn's Ranch
One of the area's best-known attractions. Explore the legendary country singer's ranch, museum, and historic sites, or check the calendar for concerts.
Lady's Bluff Trail
A TVA-managed National Recreation Trail that winds about 2.6 miles through the forest to an overlook high above the Tennessee River, past gnarled old cedars, limestone outcrops, and footbridges. Wildflowers like shooting star, trout lily, and wild ginger bloom from mid-April through early May, and by mid-October thousands of migrating ducks and geese arrive at the wildlife refuge across the river, so bring binoculars.
Nashville
Music City is about an hour east. Live music, restaurants, honky-tonks, and everything else.
